Khusbu Sarkar Shrestha graduated from Malaviya Regional Engineering College, Rajasthan University, in 1988. He then worked for a short time in Shimane Prefecture in Japan as a civil engineer. During 1989 – 1990 periods he travelled to several European countries working as a freelance computer consultant.

In 1991, in collaboration with Japanese IT Company, he started one of the first software companies in Nepal. The company was known as Poetic Systems and it developed several popular software programs that were successfully marketed in Japan.

In 1993, he developed a software called "NepalDB" which was one the first visual database system of its kind It was a tool (windows application) for quickly designing database system designing and implementation. A software application called Magic Pen he invented / developed in 1994 has been distributed as shareware and has been downloaded by over 60,000 users.

In 1995, his came into lime light as he developed South Asia’s first interactive multimedia CD-ROM. The CD contained useful information on Nepal and was sold over 10,000 copies.

In 1997, he formed a multimedia development company called eMOTION, which has till dated produced over 200 CD-ROM and over 500 other multimedia presentation products for domestic and international clients. His clients include companies like UPM Finland (a fortune 500 company) TIC of Japan, Asian Development Bank, World Bank, NDLea Inc,  Crown Plaza Holiday Inn, Nepal Tourism Board, ADRA, UNDP, UINCEF, WFP, CARE, WaterAid etc.

In 2001, he established a large scale software development house (New World Enterprises) in collaboration with Satyam Computers of India. Satyam at that time was India’s third biggest IT Company. He served the Company as Managing Director till 2006.

In 2006, he was appointed as the Regional Director for Asia, Stofanel Investment AG (, a public limited company based in Berlin. His responsibility was to explore, identify and analyze business opportunities in Asian markets mainly in the real estate sector. He served for the company till December 31, 2008.
In 2008, he formed Nepal’s first 2D animation company (Called Yeti Digital in technical collaboration with Canadian Animation studio ( The company employs over 45 full time animators. He is serving the company as a Business Director.

 In 2008 he formed GAP, Global Appropriate Partners in technology [] to outsource architectural/engineering design and construction documents to Nepal from western countries.

Awards: A CD-ROM entitled- "Mt. Everest and More" developed by him for Nepal Tourism Board was the winner of PATA Gold Award for the year 2002 and then again in 2006. PATA (www.pata.or) is the apex body of Tourism Associations around the world. In 2000, he was awarded Rastriya Yuva Gaurav Puraskar" (National Youth Award) in the field of Science and Technology. In 1990 he had won the "Special Prize" in the Housing Design Competition organized by TOWA Housing, Tokyo Japan.
